Debt Reduction
Jesus said, “If you ask Me anything in My name, I will do it.” John 14:14
Never in the history of man has a bigger bolder statement been made by one man to others. Only one who is omniscient, omnipotent, and omnipresent can make such a statement. People sometimes debate whether Christ is deity or just divine. He said to His enemies, “Kill me and in three days I will raise myself up.” If He was only divine he had a big problem. He would need help from deity; but on the other hand if He is deity, He had no problem, He would raise Himself from the dead.
Jesus told us not to fear anyone who can just kill our body but to fear God who can destroy both body and soul. He was saying that God is powerful and has control over the physical and the spiritual world. He can do whatsoever he will. God is willing and able to meet every need we as individuals and we as a nation can ever ask. That’s a big God. When it comes to God, big is what you want. When it comes to government, small is what you want. So why are we trusting big government? A government who has taxed us to death, spent even more than it has taxed us, and buried us in debt. The weeping prophet Jeremiah said of Israel, “Our inheritance has been turned over to strangers.” Our national debt is staggering, our inheritance is owed to strangers, and many of us feel like weeping. Nehemiah was told by his countrymen “We are helpless our fields and vineyards belong to someone else.” Our jobs have been shipped all over the world and they now belong to someone else because of the decisions of our government. A government that is so distant and detached that we have no control over it.
Today we are in a transition period between the days when America was a robust nation and the days of calamity. The bible teaches that debt is a curse. We are drowning in it. The national debt is $40,000 for each person in America whether you are one day old or one hundred years old. For a family of four the interest on that debt each year is $7,600. Many families cannot pay their personal mortgages; how can they ever hope to pay on the national debt? To make matters worse, much of the interest goes overseas to make others wealthy and us needy.
Our forefathers trusted God and as a result built a great nation. God has said of the nation that would honor Him that he will, “bless you as he has promised you, and you will lend to many nations, but you will not borrow; and you will rule over many nations, but they will not rule over you.” (Deut 15:6) It is obvious that we have not honored God in the last years of our nation as our fathers had in the former years. And our President has told us we are not a Christian nation. But God is a very merciful God. He has said, “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.” (2 Chr 7:14)
Each person must ask God for forgiveness in regards to their own personal sin, and then we can start looking to God concerning our nation. God knows how to deliver an individual from the bondage of sin and He knows how to deliver a nation from the bondage of debt. Concerning the individual the bible says “but God demonstrates His own love towards us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” (Romans 5:8)
The rain drops of spring
The sunshine of summer
The colored leaves of fall
The snowflakes of winter
And I must crossover
He was born of a virgin
He lived a perfect life
He died for my transgressions
He rose up from the grave
And I’m ready to crossover
Concerning the nation, God says He can put down or lift up, it all depends on us. We can turn to God or we can remain as we are; but as for God, He is willing and able to lead a nation to crossover from calamity to greatness. As we drive through town or down the highway, every time we see a house we can say there goes $7,600 each year for interest on the National Debt. To change this dismal situation we must elect “Fiscal Christian Conservatives” to the house and senate, people who believe that God has set economics into motion just as he has gravity.
We in America are in a precarious situation because of our high debt. If the economy improves, then the interest rates will go up and the government will have to pay more interest on the debt. The $7,600 could go to nine, ten, or fifth teen thousand dollars on interest for each household. If enough conservatives are elected to office they can hold the line and stop the madness. If even more are elected, they can reverse the trend and save America from total control and or collapse. We can return the government back to the states and counties, where the people can have a voice, as intended by the constitution.
Debt reduction needs to be a top priority for Americans & to do this will require a smaller government. People must turn from trusting government to meet so many of their needs and trust God instead. Government is expensive God is not.
“Let the nations be glad and sing for joy; For You will judge the people righteously, and govern the nations upon the earth. Let the people praise You O’Lord let all the people praise You.” (Ps 67:4-5)
